Mercer Island High School’s KMIH 889 The Bridge Nominated for National Broadcasting Awards

Mercer Island— April 20, 2022— The 82nd annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System nominees have been announced and the staff at Mercer Island High School’s KMIH 889 The Bridge are nominated in 40 categories for their excellence in radio broadcasting. The nationally recognized awards are among the highest honor for high school radio stations. KMIH 889 The Bridge has students nominated in a wide-range of categories, including Sports Play-by-Play, Best News Interview, Radio Drama and Public Affairs Programming. “I’m so proud of our 889 The Bridge student broadcasters. They have continued to entertain and serve our school and community in spite of a pandemic and are nominated for more awards than ever before”, said Joe Bryant, broadcast media instructor at MIHS and general manager of the station. “I feel blessed to mentor such an engaged group. Sharing my expertise and overseeing “the world’s biggest little radio station” truly is a dream job”.

Nearly 50 MIHS radio students are nominated for these awards that include live broadcasts, interviews, specialty shows and PSA’s that have aired over the past year. 

According to KMIH Broadcast Media & Community Outreach Coordinator, Natalie Woods, these nominations point to the wide-range of programming aired on the station. “I’m so thrilled to see that the depth and scope of what we put on the air at KMIH is being recognized nationally. As the Community Outreach Coordinator, I’m particularly excited to see programs we produced with our city council candidates and a series we collaborated on with MI PTA’s Parent Edge are among the broadcasts being singled out for excellence in high school radio.”
