The primary mission of Advanced Radio is to expand students learning about broadcast media so that they can continue to build their skill sets and contribute to our award-winning content, and increasingly popular brand. Advanced radio classes connect and expose students to the broadcast industry with a focus on hands-on training. Students continue to learn the fundamentals of production, on-air delivery, marketing and operating a REAL radio station. In Advanced Radio, students have the opportunity to take on individualized projects and duties that allow them to play to their strengths and interests. Riley is a junior at Mercer Island High School. At KMIH, she works on her podcast Global Glimpses, which explores new countries and cultures each week. Outside of the station, she loves cooking and baking and hanging out with her friends.
Mika is a sophomore at Mercer Island High School and part of the student staff for KMIH. This is her second year in the radio program. Her favorite part of the station is creating shows and collaborating with others. Outside of school, she enjoys hanging out with friends and listening to music.
Chip is a sophomore at Mercer Island High School and it’s his second year in the program. Outside of radio, he likes to play football and hang out with his friends. Inside the studio, he co-hosts the podcast Media Munchies and is excited to level it up for its second year.
Jack is a 10th grader at MIHS and is part of KMIH because he loves being able to share his thoughts with others, and it’s easy to do that on the radio. Along with making podcasts and doing sports news, Jack is passionate about the sports he plays. He plays ice hockey and lacrosse for MIHS.
Maggie is a sophomore at Mercer Island High School and joined KMIH because she was interested in live broadcasting and creating a podcast. Maggie is passionate about science and hopes to become a marine biologist. For now, you can find her playing volleyball or hanging out with friends. She loves being part of the MIHS community through radio and contributing to the team.
Sam is a sophomore at MIHS and joined KMIH because he aspired to start a show. Along with producing his podcast, Sam is passionate about sports, specifically football. A fun fact about Sam is that he’s lived on Mercer Island his whole life.
Adam is in 10th grade and has a show called Media Munchies. He enjoys spending time in the studio with his friends and working with them to come up with different topics for his podcast. Adam also plays soccer for the Islanders and loves to fish and play the guitar. He enjoys meeting new people and making new friends.
Lily is a sophomore at MIHS. She is one of the hosts of Growing Up with Lily and Leah. Outside of the station, she acts, works out, and hangs out with friends.
Luke is a sophomore and this is his second year at the station. He loves the creative part of radio because it’s a great way to express himself. Luke skis most days of the week during the winter season and also plays lacrosse for the high school. He loves talking about strange hypothetical situations with his friends.
Miles is a sophomore at Mercer Island High School and it’s his second year in the program. He co-hosts the podcast Fragrance Fellas and is excited to talk about the world of fragrance. Outside of radio, Miles enjoys playing lacrosse, skiing, and spending time with family and friends.
Alisha is a junior at MIHS and joined the radio program because she loves music. Her sibling also participated in KMIH and spoke highly of it, which influenced her to join. She is very interested in sports broadcasting and also loves to play chess.
Trey is a sophomore at Mercer Island High School and this is his second year in radio. Trey previously had a show called Genuine Lax, which was about lacrosse. This year, he is joining the podcast Media Munchies. Outside of radio, Trey loves lacrosse, exercise, skiing, and spending time with friends and family. He is excited to continue radio and create great content.
Edward is a junior at Mercer Island High School. He runs a radio show and produces his podcast every week, mostly about politics. Off the mic, Edward enjoys studying law, hanging out with friends, and playing games.
Remy is a junior at Mercer Island High School and works as a podcast creator at KMIH. She joined the program to make new friends and strengthen her ability to speak confidently without relying on a script, appreciating how podcasting allows her to be herself. Outside of radio, she loves listening to Drake and attending concerts whenever possible. A fun fact about her is that her brother currently attends Islander Middle School and is looking forward to the radio program when he gets into high school.
Max Pelter is a sophomore at Mercer Island High School. At KMIH, he loves sports broadcasting, hosting shows, and going live on the air. Outside of the station, Max is involved in radio club, plays hockey, and enjoys watching sports and spending time with his family and two dogs.
Ginger Radke is a sophomore at Mercer Island High School and contributes to KMIH by creating podcasts and producing promos. She loves connecting with the MIHS community through radio. Ginger also works aftercare for kindergarten through 4th-grade kids, babysits often, and scuba dives monthly in Washington.
Maya is a 10th grader at Mercer Island High School and is entering her second year in the radio program. She is excited to run a new show and podcast with her co-host and best friend Mika. Outside of school, Maya enjoys hanging out with friends, going for walks, and skiing in the winter.
Zane Shiers is a sophomore at MIHS. He joined KMIH in his freshman year to broadcast his voice to the world and because of his love of music. Along with co-running the podcast The Huddle with his friends, Zane is passionate about mountain biking and football. A fun fact about Zane is that his grandfather coached in the NFL.
Willa is a sophomore at Mercer Island High School and it’s her second year in the program. She is the creator of ThreeSamyMystery and What’s the Verdict podcasts. She looks forward to continuing to grow her radio and interviewing skills. In her free time, she enjoys track and field, hanging out with friends and family, and volunteering.
Sadie is a junior at Mercer Island High School and it’s her second year in the program. She is a podcast creator and is excited to learn more about the technical side of the station, like running the board during live sports play-by-plays. Outside of school, Sadie does roller derby and cross country and enjoys listening to music.
Emerson is a sophomore at Mercer Island High School and is in her second year in the program. She is excited to begin a podcast with friends and have opportunities to broadcast live. Outside of radio, Emerson enjoys sports and hanging out with friends.
Jake is a senior at Mercer Island High School and it’s his second year in the program. He is a podcast creator in the advanced radio class and is looking forward to working with friends to improve at radio in general. He is also starting a new podcast, which is not yet named, and is excited to do more episodes for his final year. Outside of radio, Jake enjoys soccer, snowboarding, and spending time with family and friends.
Eliot Abramson is a sophomore and in his second year in the radio program. He enjoys making memories with his friends and recording fun podcasts. He plays lacrosse and skis for fun, and he's very excited to explore some new podcasting projects this year.
Samantha is a 10th grader at Mercer Island High School. At KMIH, she works on producing podcasts and does live broadcasts. Outside of the station, Samantha plays volleyball for club and MIHS and enjoys hanging out with her friends and family.
Kabir Bains is a sophomore at Mercer Island High School. He enjoys making podcasts and informing people about the news. When Kabir is not on the airwaves, he’s busy playing basketball for the Islanders.
Alex, a sophomore at Mercer Island High School, joined because of his love for music and producing sports and news reports. Outside of the station, Alex is involved in golf and baseball and enjoys hiking and hanging out with friends.
Haiden is a junior at Mercer Island High School and it’s his 3rd year in the radio program and 2nd year as an advanced student. He is looking forward to the upcoming soccer season. His hobbies include playing soccer, hanging out with family and friends, and boogie boarding whenever he gets the chance. Something he enjoys about radio is broadcasting and making podcasts with friends, and getting on air whenever he can.
David Dorre is a sophomore at MIHS. Last year he had a show called DJ's Picks, but unfortunately his partner Jordan moved to Connecticut, so he will be doing a different show this year. Some of his hobbies include fishing, lacrosse, playing the guitar, and hanging out with his friends. David joined KMIH because he heard about how amazing the program is—and the rumors were true! He is excited for the school year. Go Islanders!
Matthew Duffie is a junior at Mercer Island High School. It is his second year in the program, and he is excited to continue his podcast Below the Surface and create awesome content for the station. Outside of radio, Matthew enjoys playing soccer, hiking, and hanging out with friends.
Pranav is a sophomore at MIHS who co-hosts his podcast Fragrance Fellas and likes to produce the daily sports report. He enjoys the creative aspect of radio class and the ability to create great pieces. Outside of radio, Pranav likes to play basketball, watch the NFL, and smell fragrances.
Pablo Fernandez is a junior at MIHS. His role in the program is to do sports broadcasting, record podcasts, and give sports updates. He really enjoys doing sports broadcasts and providing updates since he loves talking about sports and watching the high school games while giving commentary. He is a huge fan of golf and enjoys socializing with his friends, doing productive activities, and having fun.
Caroline is a sophomore at Mercer Island High School. At KMIH, she works on producing her podcast. Outside of the station, Caroline is involved in volleyball and cheerleading and also enjoys being with friends.
Jackson Helman is a 10th-grade student at MIHS and a member of the student staff at KMIH. He will be hosting a podcast this year about sports. His favorite thing about radio is the freedom given to all of the students.
Avani is a junior at MIHS, and this is her second year in the program. Her favorite thing to do at the station is making podcasts, and she is looking forward to doing more live broadcasting in the coming year. Outside of school, she loves playing the piano, baking, and spending time with friends. She’s excited for another great year at KMIH!
Angela Ivanov, also known as Angie, is a junior at Mercer Island High School. She hosts a Pokémon podcast at KMIH called Pokémon Stats & Facts. Outside of school, she enjoys playing Minecraft and Pokémon ROM hacks.
Chase is a junior at Mercer Island High School and it’s his second year in the program. This year he will be podcasting with his partner Tyler Rockfeld, and he’s excited to start broadcasting. Chase also looks forward to interviewing athletes throughout the year. Outside of radio, Chase enjoys hiking, surfing, and spending time with family and friends.
Eli is a 10th grader at MIHS who joined KMIH because he heard it on the radio and it sounded fun. Along with podcasting, Eli is passionate about sports, especially football. A fun fact: Eli has the same birthday as professional basketball player Kevin Durant.
Samo Lassila is a junior at KMIH 88.9. He has been creating a podcast called Northwest Narratives, a show where he discusses the history of people in Washington and Oregon. His favorite part of creating a show is not just recording but also researching the subjects he talks about. He also enjoys cars, hiking, and mountain biking.
Maddox Luu is a sophomore at MIHS. He enjoys making shows and meeting new friends in his classes. Outside of radio, Maddox plays lacrosse, snowboards, and hangs out with friends.
Jay is a sophomore at MIHS and brings interesting sports takes to the KMIH team. On the air, he covers sports and music, and he also runs a sports show. Off the mic, Jay enjoys playing tennis.
Sophie Perrenoud, a junior at Mercer Island High School, contributes to KMIH by creating compelling podcasts and producing insightful news reports. Passionate about building connections within the MIHS community, she extends her impact beyond the studio by volunteering at the hospital and actively participating in school clubs.
Lila is a sophomore at Mercer Island High School, and it’s her second year in the program. She co-hosts the podcast Passion for Fashion and looks forward to continuing it throughout high school. She and her friend Calla were also invited to be on a news segment for Fox 13 Seattle to talk about their podcast. Outside of radio, Lila enjoys skiing, soccer, music, and spending time with friends.
Oliver Pong is a junior at Mercer Island High School and is in his second year of radio. What he likes most about radio is the freedom and the ability to have fun communicating with friends. His hobbies include soccer, cooking, and hanging out with friends. A fun fact about Oliver is that he won a state championship with Mercer Island Boys Varsity.
Kite is a sophomore at Mercer Island High School, and it’s her second year in the program. She is looking forward to working more on her podcast Head in the Game and interviewing more people. Outside of radio, Kite loves spending time with friends, playing water polo, and reading.
Tyler Rockfeld is a junior at MIHS in his second year of radio. His favorite part of the program is doing sports broadcasts and recording podcasts with his friends. Outside of school, Tyler loves playing basketball, hanging out with friends, and wakesurfing.
Jasmine is a junior at Mercer Island High School. At KMIH, she works on producing podcasts and broadcasting volleyball. Outside of the station, Jasmine loves listening to music, reading, and spending time with friends.
Eric Shao is a sophomore at MIHS, and he primarily produces news updates and a podcast about math. He joined radio because he knew it would be fun to share different ideas and stories on the air. Outside of the station, Eric plays piano and tennis (not at the same time!) and enjoys various trading card games.
Elan is a junior at Mercer Island High School. At KMIH, he loves doing newscasts and creating episodes for his podcast Below the Surface. Elan is passionate about journalism and law.
Esha is a sophomore at MIHS, and this is her second year in radio. She loves being part of KMIH because of all the creative freedom. Last year she was part of a food-tasting podcast, which she loved and is excited to continue this year. In her free time, Esha enjoys running, cooking, hanging out with friends, and spending time with her older brother when he’s home from college.
Guillem is a sophomore at Mercer Island High School. He co-hosts a show on KMIH called Savoring Seattle, where he reviews restaurants in the Seattle area. Outside of school, Guillem plays water polo and enjoys baking and cooking.
Amelia Sung is a 10th grader at MIHS and part of the KMIH crew. When she’s not producing, Amelia enjoys hanging out with friends, going for runs, or relaxing at home. She joined KMIH because she loves music and storytelling.
