ABRO


ABRO (Advanced Broadcasting and Radio Operations) is a class designed for third and fourth year broadcasting students that want to take an even deeper dive into learning about the broadcast and communications industry.

The primary mission of ABRO is for students to work as a team to produce quality programming that super serves MIHS and the Mercer Island community AND to take the lead on operating the station and mentoring other radio students. Excellence, engagement and encouragement of others are the expected norms. We are one big KMIH family and an attitude of fellowship and inclusion is something that begins every school day during 1st period ABRO.


Kylie Oordt - SPORTS DIRECTOR

Kylie is a senior at Mercer Island High School. It is her fourth year of being in the KMIH radio program and her second year being a part of the ABRO class. She is very excited to take on her new role as the Sports Team Director, as she loves all sports and broadcasting them! Outside of radio, Kylie is on the cheer team, she lifeguards at Mercerwood Shore Club and loves hanging out with her friends.

 

Cooper Jensen - Sports Director

Cooper is a Senior at Mercer Island High School, it is his 4th year with KMIH 88.9 The Bridge. Cooper is very excited to learn more about broadcasting and continuing his show called Bop or Flop for a 4th year. You can listen to his show at 7pm on Fridays. Cooper is on the lacrosse and golf team at the high school and he also loves to ski and mountain bike. 

 

Aadyaa Singhal - Digital Media Director

A senior at Mercer Island High School, Aadyaa is the Digital Media Director at 88.9 The Bridge, where she oversees the station’s online presence and helps spread KMIH to a wider audience. She also co-hosts The Podcast Podcast, a weekly show where she and her co-host review and discuss different podcasts. Aadyaa is excited to also continue on broadcasting the station’s newscast and sportscast! She enjoys combining creativity with technology to share stories, engage listeners, and strengthen community connections through media. Outside of the radio program, Aadyaa likes to read, travel and be with friends.

 

Maggie Anderson - Creative Content Director

Maggie is a senior at Mercer Island High School, currently in her second year in the program! Maggie will be working hard, making logos and creative digital content for the website and Instagram. Maggie started loving radio last year after interviewing college professors, starting two podcasts, and sharing her passion with other students. Outside of radio, she participates in crew with Mount Baker Crew and Mercer Island rec soccer in the fall, and enjoys listening to and making music with friends.

 

Elan Baumgarten - Engineering Director

Elan is a senior at MIHS in his third year at KMIH. In the past he has worked on expanding his podcast, Becoming Sage, where the history of ordinary items was explored and explained. This year his show will be airing with the Breakfast on the Bridge morning show as he works to further the technical knowledge of the station's general staff and take the quality of our shows up to the next level this year. Outside of KMIH and academics, Elan is a rowing captain and seasonal coach at Mt. Baker Crew. He also loves spending time skiing in the mountains, practicing and instructing at his karate dojo, and volunteering at the Sea-Tac USO.

 

Mia Tamarkin - Program Director

Mia is a senior at MIHS, and she is so excited to be a leader during her last year at KMIH! She is the programming director for 88.9, but also loves conducting interviews and hosting the morning show. She enjoys playing soccer and boxing, as well as reading and watching movie marathons.

 

Brooke Newell - Music Director

Brooke is a senior at Mercer Island High School. She has been a part of KMIH for 4 years, and heavily involved in the music program for the last year. She is now in charge of the music program and is excited for what is to come! This year, she will co-host a music show Thursdays at 8am to discuss different topics and genres of music to explore and share music with others. Outside of the radio program, she enjoys spending time with friends, traveling, and playing tennis. KMIH has been an amazing part of her high school experience and she can’t wait to make her last year the best one!

 

Sydney Parcel - News Director

Sydney Parcel is a senior at Mercer Island High School. It is her fourth year being part of the KMIH radio program and she is excited to take on her role as News Director.  She has played for Mercer Island volleyball and tennis for four years. Sydney has worked on her podcast "The Podcast Podcast" for four years and has been on her other show, "Tik Talk" for two years. She loves reporting on the news and sports and recording her shows.

 

Aaliyah Khan - Promotions Director

Aaliyah is a senior at Mercer Island High School. It is her fourth year of being in the KMIH radio program and her second year being a part of the ABRO class. She is very excited to take on her new role as the Promotions Director, as she wants to keep everyone informed on the latest the station is doing! You can listen to her show Bop or Flop Fridays at 7pm. Outside of radio she likes to read, watch TikTok edits and do track and field!

 

Chase Koehler - Assistant Sports Director

Chase serves as the Assistant Sports Director at KMIH, where he broadcasts games across all sports- from football and basketball to soccer and lacrosse. Beyond sports broadcasting, Chase co-hosts a weekly show called "Karaoke Killa's" with Kylie, where they dive into their favorite songs and aren't afraid to show off their singing skills! As captain of the baseball team, sports are a huge part of his life, and when he’s not on the field or behind the mic, you can find him on the golf course, pickleball court, or exploring local hiking trails. Chase loves bringing the same energy and passion he has for athletics to every broadcast, making sure listeners feel like they're right there in the action.

 

Ava Chastain - Assistant Music Director

Ava is a junior at Mercer Island High School. It is her third year of being in the KMIH radio program and her first year being a part of the ABRO and she is very excited to continue doing shows and be an Assistant Music Director with Brooke. Outside of radio, Ava is on the swim and basketball team, she loves hanging with her friends and listening to music.

 

Ziva Levin - Assistant Program Director

Ziva is a junior at MIHS. She has been in the program for three years and enjoys live broadcasting. Ziva is the Assistant Programming Director for the station. She will be programming all of the student content. Outside of radio, she is a cheerleader at the high school.

 

Theo Roodman - Assistant Engineering Director

Theo is an 11th grade Assistant Engineer Director with a strong passion for sports. He frequently goes LIVE to share his insights, engaging in lively discussions and debates with fellow sports enthusiasts who truly know the game. As an avid baseball player himself, Theo brings firsthand experience to his sports talk, adding depth and authenticity to his commentary. Beyond just talking about sports, he is also an enthusiastic podcaster, dedicating time to create content that explores various aspects of the sports world in depth. His passion for sports talk and his ability to connect with his audience make him a dynamic and respected voice in the community.

 

Reese Hardisty - Operations Manager

Reese is a senior at Mercer Island High School and it's her second year in the program! She is the Operations Manager for KMIH and will be assisting in outreach, scheduling and department coordination. Reese is looking forward to continuing her passion for conducting interviews, broadcasting, and sports through her co-hosted podcast 'Head in the Game.' Outside of the studio, Reese enjoys being a captain for the swim team, drinking lots of coffee, reading, spending time outdoors and embracing her inner Flag Dudette. 

 

Audrey Tintle - Executive Producer

Audrey is a junior at Mercer Island High School, and it's her third year in the radio program. As Executive Producer of KMIH's morning show, Breakfast on the Bridge, Audrey's job is to acquire topics and talent for the weekly show, as well as schedule guests and make sure the show is running smoothly. Outside of radio, Audrey loves to travel, cook, and spend time with family and friends. She's excited for another great year with KMIH!

 

Audrey Senft - Production Manager

Audrey, a senior at Mercer Island High School, manages production and quality control at KMIH and is also the show scheduler. She started "The Rewind," a weekly international news recap during her first year at KMIH, which sparked her interest in International Relations. Outside of radio, she enjoys playing tennis, traveling, reading, and hanging out with friends.

 

Justen Bienstock - Media Relations Manager

Justen Bienstock is a junior at MIHS who plays soccer and tennis while being part of the school's leadership program. He's passionate about radio because he loves how it brings the whole Mercer Island community together, finding it fun and seeing it as a way to connect with everyone on the island through shared experiences and local programming. Justen really loves the community spirit and passion that makes Mercer Island special.

Avery Cohen - Music Marketing Manager

Avery is a junior at Mercer Island High School and it's her third year in the radio program. She is the marketing manager for the station and is excited to connect with local artists to bring new music to the station. She co-hosts the podcast 'Off Camera' and is excited to continue producing content and talking about new and upcoming shows. Outside of radio Avery enjoys soccer, swimming, reading, and hanging with friends. 

 

Magnus Zettel - Sports Marketing Manager

Magnus is a senior in Mercer Islands ABRO class. He is a sports marketing manager with three years of experience. He enjoys hobbies such as Soccer, Wrestling, Mountain Biking, and snowboarding. Something he enjoys the most about radio broadcasting is doing sports play by play.

Ella Chang - Social Media Manager

Ella is a junior at Mercer Island High School and this is her fourth year in the radio program. She helps runs the social media outreach and marketing through the KMIH Instagram. She is excited to help grow the Instagram and gain a larger audience for The Bridge. She also co-hosts a podcast called "Off Camera" where she talks about new movies and shows with friends. Outside of radio, Ella loves to go outdoors on the lake or hiking and she likes spending time with family and friends.

 

Jayne Tintle - Social Media Manager

Jayne Tintle is a junior at Mercer Island High School, and is in her 3rd year at the program. Jayne is running the 88.9 The Bridge Instagram account, and helps run social media and marketing for KMIH. Jayne is looking forward to continuing working on her podcast, What's Poppin', that she co-hosts with her twin sister Audrey. Outside of radio, Jayne likes to play tennis, travel, and cook!

 

Will Prock - On-Air Content Manager

Will is a Senior at Mercer Island High School. It is his fourth year with KMIH. Will is excited to run his award-winning show, What Happened Today In History. year in a row and also manage all the show and feature content that airs. You can listen to his features every 2 hours starting at 7:45 am and ending at 7:45 pm on Tuesdays. In his free time, Will loves to work out, hang out with friends, and listen to music.

 

Zach Hyman - On-Air Content Manager

Zach Hyman is a junior and his role on the airwaves is On-air content manager. He has a deep passion for soccer and sometimes he mixes in golf or tennis. He enjoys going live on-air and broadcasting the most.

 

Sam Karami - On-Air Content Manager

Sam is a Junior and is in his third year in the radio program. Sam handles the role of the On-Air Manager with his friends Brady and Zach and loves everything about radio, from podcasts to sports broadcasting. He is also a co-host of the Big Four Goes Global podcast with his friends, where they discuss any topic from food to sports. In his free time, Sam enjoys playing tennis and basketball, as well as spending time with friends and family.

 

Luke Loiselle - On-Air Content Manager

Luke is a junior at Mercer Island High School and it's his third year in the program! He is one of the On-Air content managers of Student Staff and is looking forward to collaberating with poeple to create great radio content. He also co-hosts the podcast 'Final Standings' and hosts the podcast 'Econ for All' and is excited to make connections through broadcasting. Outside of radio, Luke enjoys Tennis, Golf, Skiing, and spending time with family and friends!

 

Brady Mock - On-Air Content Manager

Brady Mock is a junior here at MIHS who has been in the radio program for 3 years and in his first year of Abro. Brady loves playing sports, specifically soccer, and tennis. His favorite part of this class is doing the sports broadcasts with his friends and producing podcast episodes for the world to hear! Brady is the Sports On Air Manager for the station, this means he produces sports interviews and makes sports content for the radio station.

 

Porter Larsen - Radio Club President

Porter is a junior at Mercer Island High School and it's his third year in the program! This year he will be the President of Radio Club working to include KMIH and non-KMIH members with the radio program and he can’t wait to broadcast again this year. Porter also hosts the podcast “Before The Buzzer” and is excited to interview athletes throughout the year! Outside of radio, Porter enjoys skiing, hiking, surfing, and spending time with family and friends! 

 

Andrew Helms - Radio Club Vice-President

Andrew Helms is a Junior at MIHS and part of the student staff at KMIH. He is a Vice-president of KMIH Radio Club and he enjoys playing sports and hanging out with his friends. His favorite thing about radio is how it connects him to the community.
